Travel Log: Siena, Italy

The first stop on our Italy adventure was the historic walled city of Siena in Tuscany. This city is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the capital of the province of Siena. Many people know of Siena because of its Palio, a horse race run two times each summer (once in July and once in August). If you have seen the opening scene of the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace, you've seen a peek at the Palio di Siena! The Piazza del Campo (the main square), Siena Cathedral with its stately Duomo, and Fortezza Medicea are also prominent features of this city. We spent two days exploring Siena, taking peaceful early morning walks without all of the crowds and enjoying the architecture and views. I also did my wedding hair and makeup trial in Siena, where my stylists were based! Please scroll through to see more photos and additional details for this lovely, historic Tuscan city.

A peek into the Piazza del Campo from one of its handful of entrances.

Quiet mornings at the Piazza del Campo, before the day's hustle begins.

A typical Siena street with brick buildings and narrow alleyways.

The view from the Fortezza Medicea toward the old part of the city. You can walk all around the old fort walls for different views of Siena and Tuscany.

The impressive Siena Cathedral has one of the oldest stained glass windows in Italy as well as a detailed front facade and marble work!

The result of my hair and makeup trial! I felt so glamorous for the rest of the day, and was very happy with the results both during the trial and the day of my wedding.

Here you gain some perspective on the size of the old wall, looking out beyond into Tuscany!

I hope you enjoyed this photo tour of Siena! Please stay tuned for more Italy posts over the next couple of weeks. What is your favorite city that you have ever visited? Leave me a comment, I would love to know. Thank you for visiting my blog today, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
