Travel Style: Australia Road Trip, Twelve Apostles

Hi everyone! You probably noticed that I took a blogging break over the Christmas and New Year holidays, but it was for a very good reason. My husband and I traveled to Australia with a group of  dear friends and embarked on a 2,300 mile/3,700km road trip adventure! Now that I am back home and somewhat caught up with work, I am in the process of creating a series of posts to share both outfits and highlights from our visit to the Land Down Under. While our trip was centered around spending New Year's Eve in Sydney, we saw a decent portion of South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and a teeny bit of Queensland. We started our vacation with a couple days of wine tasting in Adelaide and Hahndorf, then jumped in three large SUVs and made our way to the Twelve Apostles and Great Ocean Road on Christmas Day. For this long day of driving, I chose an athleisure outfit made up of jogger pants, a super soft tank, Birkenstock sandals, and a festive Christmas hat (courtesy of our friend Laura!). Please read on for more photos, outfit links, and a few additional details on visiting the Twelve Apostles.

The Twelve Apostles are a cluster of limestone formations located along the Great Ocean Road and a popular tourist attraction. While I am not sure there were ever twelve of these limestone stacks, we know there were nine in the 1920's when they were named and eight currently remain after one collapsed in 2005. There is an additional formation formerly known as the "London Bridge," until a large section collapsed in 1990 and it was renamed the "London Arch." You can see the London Arch in my first four photos above, the rest below are of the Twelve Apostles. If you want to see the Twelve Apostles and the London Arch, the visitor facility is approximately a 7.5 hour drive from Adelaide or approximately 3 hour drive from Melbourne. There is a large free parking lot, free entry to the viewing area, restrooms and a small cafe/gift shop.

I am so glad we had a chance to visit the Twelve Apostles Marine National Park during our recent Australia visit, because the reality is that the waves and wind are slowly eroding away these formations over time. While we did not drive the full 100+ kilometers of the Great Ocean Road, we saw gorgeous views from the portion we drove and I absolutely recommend it on a trip to South Australia. Have you visited Australia? If so, what was your favorite part? Leave me a comment and let me know!
