What I Packed and Wore in Greece and Croatia

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I recently spent a wonderful couple of weeks in Europe on a much-needed vacation. This was a trip I originally planned for summer 2020, rescheduled of course, and it felt incredible to be able to rebook and finally go this September. My itinerary included one week in the Greek islands split between Santorini, Paros, and Mykonos, then a week in Croatia between Dubrovnik and Split, and final three days in Venice before flying back home to Seattle. September is my favorite time to be in Europe, because the weather is still pleasant but the summer crowds are gone. Today I am sharing what I packed and wore for this trip, knowing that we would still have summer weather in Greece but cooler fall weather in Croatia and Italy. I own this Tumi 19" International Carry-On in silver and everything I am sharing with you today fit in that bag along with three swimsuits, my makeup, and a flat iron. Please continue reading to learn what I packed, what I wore, and what I learned that will influence how I pack for the next trip.

First, let's talk summer dresses and skirts. I packed a sunflower print Sezane midi dress with adjustable shoulder ties, as well as a blue Shona Joy square neck knit midi dress, a yellow floral mini skirt, navy blue linen mini dress, and a white and blue floral mini dress all shown below. I knew that Greece would still feel like summer with sunshine and temperatures in the 80's, and lightweight dresses were a great option for day to night dressing. The navy linen mini dress worked well as a cover-up for beach days, and I took my trusty denim jacket to layer over all of these dresses in the evenings. In terms of shoes, I packed one pair of ankle strap sandals, one pair of Menorcan sandals, one pair of brown flats, and one pair of white Nike Air Force 1 sneakers that I rotated depending on the day and the agenda. I wore all of these dresses at least twice, but in hindsight could probably have left the floral mini skirt or the white and blue floral dress behind to pack lighter as they were similar enough to other pieces and I wore them less frequently than the other dresses.

Next let's cover shorts and tops, versatile pieces to mix and match for any trip. I packed these tan linen Explorer Shorts along with an older pair of seersucker scalloped shorts. Regarding tops, I packed a white camisolewhite ribbed crop tank, and blue crop tank for warmer days. All of these pieces were easy to style together in multiple different outfit combinations. I also packed two sweaters (one tan and one navy) and a vintage Hermes scarf for additional layering, and rotated my Menorcan sandals with my sneakers for casual daytime looks. I actually packed a second camisole with a dot pattern, but somehow didn't take any photos the days I wore it. However, I felt that the number of shorts and tanks that I packed was the right amount to mix and match and feel like I wore different looks throughout the trip.

Finally, let's talk about cooler weather layers. When I was packing for the trip, the forecast for Croatia and Venice was still quite warm during the day (upper 70's), so I only took one pair of white wide leg pants that I wore on the plane. By the time I got to Croatia and Venice, however, the weather turned and temperature highs were in the upper 60's and low 70's with evening winds and chill. I probably should have expected that, being late September, but I adapted by going to the Zara in Split and picking up a maxi skirt and a second pair of pants. Layering these new pieces with my existing sweaters, tees, and denim jacket kept me comfortable during the second half of my trip.

  8. Stunning photos Amber! You did so well with your outfits and packing. I always take a huge case for our summer holiday, yet I don't seem to have many more outfits than you took! Need to rethink. I find that cosmetics and makeup take up too much room. Thanks for linking!

    1. Thank you for your kind note, Gail! I agree that makeup/cosmetics take up a lot of space so I have to find the tiniest bottles to condense and fit into my one carry-on. =)
