Travel Log: Germany's Pfalz Wine Region Part Five

You may have seen on my Instagram that I recently spent a week in Germany's Pfalz wine region, famous for its Riesling Trocken (dry Riesling), with an amazing group of friends. A dear friend of ours planned the entire trip for 22 people including each day's itinerary and transport, and my husband and I were so lucky to be able to just show up and enjoy each day's experiences. The Pfalz wine region is Germany's second largest wine region and covers approximately 23,700 hectares or 228 square kilometers. While it was impossible to see the entire region, we based in one of the central cities, Neustadt An Der Weinstraße (the ß is pronounced like a soft z), and did day trips by bike or car depending on distance. We visited Birkweiler, Speyer, Deidesheim, Forst, Ruppertsberg, Freinsheim, and Landau. Our sixth day started with a wine tasting in Freinheim before being wowed by a three Michelin start dinner at LA Jordan in Deidesheim. This restaurant, with Chef Daniel Schimkowitsch at the helm, previously had two Michelin stars and just recently received their third star in June of this year. Please continue scrolling to see more photos and details of this amazing dining experience.

LA Jordan is located in Deidesheim, roughly a ten minute drive from our home base of Neustadt An Der Weinstraße. We arrived a little bit early for our 7:00pm reservation in order to take some photos and take in the beautiful setting. We had an entire room set up with one long table for our group that was right outside the kitchen and with doors open to the patio. So pretty!

Chef Daniel Schimkowitsch blends classical French style with Japanese influences in his menus and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to try his dishes. We started with some bubbly and our first bite: Balfego blue fin tuna cheek, toro, uni, and wasabi.

Belly from Loup de Mer (white fish) with broccoli, habanero and curry broth.

"Mr Kaisergranat" (German for langoustine!) with miso, x.o. vinaigrette and caviar on top.

"Sakana" (white fish) with kinmedai, sea lettuce and sake broth.

"Verkohltes Rind" (charred beef) with black truffle and teriyaki.

Palate cleanser of elderflower almond milk ice cream with green papaya and quinoa.

"Die Buchtel" (sweet pull-apart rolls that are soft and airy and similar to brioche) with strawberries in sweet wine.

After our meal Chef indulged us with a group photo in the kitchen to commemorate a wonderful meal. I didn't notice until reviewing the photos that there is a "Michelin Man" on the wall of the kitchen--how fun! We were all so grateful that our friend Christine planned and reserved this experience for us.

I hope you enjoyed this recap of our dinner at the three star Michelin awarded LA Jordan in Deidesheim! Thank you for visiting my blog today, please stay tuned for one more Germany travel log plus travel logs from two additional European destinations we visited on that same trip, and I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
