Gaucho Pants or Culottes

Wide-legged crop pants, also known as culottes or gaucho pants, are a trend that can be tricky to style. In doing a little research this weekend, I learned that the textbook difference between culottes and gauchos is that culottes have more fabric and the shape of a skirt, where gaucho pants have a wide-legged cut (usually a high waist too) but still look like cropped pants. Technically, the pants I am wearing today are gaucho pants, but since the terms are used interchangeably I put both in the title. Clear as mud? Great! Let's move on. I remember that these wide-legged cropped pants were in style when I was in high school and I did not like them back then! I did not wear heels regularly at that point in time, so I felt like this type of pant just made my 5'4" frame look stumpy. Fast forward to now, when I have learned a thing or two about how to style outfits, and I am now ready to embrace this trend. I recently purchased these Belted Wide Leg Crop Pants during a Banana Republic Friends & Family event in a size zero short. The short inseam works out perfectly for me, because they fit like crop pants without any tailoring needed. I tucked in a collared blouse and a striped sweater to maintain a slim line, and added simple nude pumps to help my legs look a bit longer. I completed the outfit with a tan clutch and a bold nautical statement necklace. Please scroll through for more of my picks for these comfy, trendy pants to style this spring.
