Travel Log: Mural Hunting in Phoenix, Arizona

Are you a fan of murals? When I am scrolling through Instagram, I notice that my eyes are always drawn to photos in front of colorful murals and I flag my favorites in the event that I find myself in that particular city. Many cities support local artists to produce murals because of that popularity, and some cities even have street art tours to help guide you on the best route to maximize your mural viewings! I recently had a great opportunity to hunt for murals on a gals' glamping trip that kicked off with one night and one morning in Phoenix. There is an entire area in downtown Phoenix called "Roosevelt Row" with a wide variety of beautiful street art to be sought out and enjoyed. Please read on for more photos and details of where we found a selection of gorgeous street art in downtown Phoenix's Roosevelt Row.

You can start your photo walk at MonOrchid, a shared workspace at 214 East Roosevelt with two different pieces of artwork on the west side of the building. The first is a boy with a watering can who appears to be pouring out water that then turns into a flock of birds. The little boy is standing above a quote by Mother Theresa in this artwork entitled "The Garden" by Brian Boner. The second is a pair of gorgeous colorful wings entitled "Take Flight" by Lauren Lee.

The wall that the above two murals are on makes up the east side of M.O. Best Mini Park, a small grassy public space that also has a long series of artwork on its north wall. The below section with its aztec style sun shape was eye-catching (see what I did there?). It looks like the artwork here has changed over time, because when I looked up the park on Google maps there was a completely different artwork in the park images. Not that changing the artwork is a bad thing--I think it is great that you can visit a place like this multiple times and potentially see different designs! I didn't catch the artist on this one, if you know please leave me a comment so that I can give the artist credit.

From the park, we walked west and crossed N Second Street to check out more colorful murals on the north wall of Carly's Bistro. We walked the length of the building and took photos at our favorite sections. I believe these are created by Lalo Cota, but please correct me if you know otherwise.

From Carly's Bistro, you can continue to walk north up North Second Street to the intersection with E Portland Street. Here you will see a lovely mural called "La Musa" by Clyde on the side of the En Hance Park Condominiums. This was one of our favorites because to us it looked like a woman leaning on her suitcase, dreaming about her next trip, and epitomizing the word "wanderlust."

This final mural was actually the first one we came across during our morning adventures downtown Phoenix. We started with lattes at Songbird Coffee & Tea House on Third Street, then spotted this cheerful color wheel across the road on the side of Combine Studios. The artist is Carrie Marill.

Have you ever done a mural/street art tour or sought out murals while visiting a particular city? If so, be sure to leave a comment to let me know where you visited and what your favorite murals were! Thank you for visiting my blog today, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
