What I'm Buying for Home this Summer

This year has thrown us a curveball and disrupted everyone's plans, but I am determined to not let that get me down. Instead of being upset that I had to cancel multiple trips with my husband and friends (because let's face it--traveling is just not important right now), I am looking at this year as an opportunity to make some updates to our home and enjoy the space that we have. Many of us are working from home, some are teaching children at home, and we are all finding ways to make our spaces adapt to the new normal. In today's post, I am sharing a few ways that my husband and I have been sprucing up our home over the last five months. Please scroll through to see all four categories with photos, descriptions, and product links.

My company transitioned to working from home in the beginning of March, and I quickly realized that sitting at the kitchen table or peninsula with my laptop was not a long-term solution. I found a compact standing desk that fits nicely in one corner of our guest bedroom. I love how many desk options are available for small spaces, as I certainly did not have room for a traditional desk, and I am sure many others are in the same boat. While the exact desk that I purchased is no longer available, here are some similar, compact options that would be great for small spaces.

When you cook daily like I do, you appreciate candles to help freshen up the air in your home. I recently found these National Park candles and absolutely love that they not only smell great, but a portion of each sale goes to support our National Parks. Think scents like "desert lavender, sage, and dried herbs," "coastal redwood, bay laurel, and sea salt," or "cactus flower and fern." I have two already, three more on the way, and these candles are going to be on rotation at my house through summer into fall and winter.

Wall art is another great way to add some color or texture to your home this year, and make your space look fresh and new. If you follow me on Instagram, you recently saw that I finally printed a canvas of my favorite wedding photo (from our destination wedding in Florence, Italy) and started a new gallery wall in our downstairs den area. We added a map of Florence courtesy of Mapiful (you can check out my IG post here), and I could not be happier with the results. I also love the idea of abstract art and different takes on world maps as statement pieces.

Since we are all spending more time at home, it makes sense to upgrade cookware and coffee supplies this year. I am working from home indefinitely at this point, and make my morning coffee almost every day in my Chemex. A good coffee making set is a must have in my kitchen--including a kettle, grinder, and a scale if you want to get really fancy. I also cook daily, and appreciate quality cookware and utensil brands like Le Creuset, All Clad, and more. If you have not yet invested in a sous vide cooker and are open to trying new methods, I recommend trying out the sous vide technique of cooking meat, vegetables, fruit, etc in a vacuum-sealed bag at a specific temperature in a water bath. This method is both healthy and delicious!

  3. I have to try making my coffee in Chemex - I use Bialetti now. And I also work from home now, but only once a week. We are slowly going back to before COVID-19.

  7. My husband has taken over my office since he's been working at home and I like these smaller office/desk options. I would love something like that for when I do my blogging. I need to be better about making coffee at home!

  8. These are definite must-haves, especially the candles! I really like scented candles although with two little kids around it's not always a wise idea, haha! Working from home while they are at school means I have been going through so many candles, it's lovely! We had a guest round the other day who exclaimed that our house smelled so nice, it was because of the candles of course, haha!

Hope that you had a lovely weekend :) Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!

    1. Haha I can imagine that since you have little ones, your candles have to be strategically placed out of their reach! But the smell in the house is so nice! =)

  9. Lovely finds! Really love the compact desks. I don't yet have a Le Creuset but agree, that quality kitchen wear is so worth the expense. You'll truly have it for a lifetime.
