Travel Log: Amanjena Marrakech, Morocco

I know I am taking a bit to share content from our recent Morocco and Egypt trip, and thank you for bearing with me as my day job and life are keeping me extremely busy these days. I promise that I have not forgotten and am slowly going through content to edit, create, and share. Today I am focusing a post on our Aman experience at Amanjena in Marrakech, Morocco. Please note that this is not a sponsored post, we chose to stay at this property and we paid a standard rate for our stay. The name Amanjena means "peaceful paradise" and it is indeed a welcome respite from the sometimes chaotic city nearby, located only about 20 minutes from Marrakech Menara International Airport. The property was designed by American architect Ed Tuttle, inspired by old Morocco with rosy terra cotta hues, water-like blue green tile, and other natural elements. The entire property is absolutely stunning and the service is best in class. Please continue reading to see more photos and some additional commentary on our stay at Amanjena.

We knew our late August timing would mean hot weather, which I honestly don't mind, and we intentionally booked this Aman property to take time to relax and enjoy the property during our stay rather than book a lot of activities. We booked a Pavilion Piscine room, meaning we had a 220 square meter room (~2,400 square feet) villa with a private garden, gazebo, and heated pool. Trust me, every afternoon was spent lounging in and by the pool during the hottest part of the day and I could not have been happier. Our booking included private roundtrip airport transfers from Marrakech Menara International Airport, daily breakfast at the poolside restaurant, and afternoon tea. We certainly had plenty of space and amenities for a luxurious vacation! The Aman team provided best in class service from the moment we met our driver waiting for us at Marrakech Medina International Airport to the moment we were dropped off at the Marrakech train station for our train to Casablanca, everything was seamless.

Amanjena was designed by architect Ed Tuttle with stunning Moroccan design elements such as massive arches, pillars, and tilework in hues of peach, pink, and green. In addition to 40 rooms, Amanjena has a large main pool adjacent to their Pool Terrace restaurant where breakfast and lunch are served, a separate kids pool, a more formal Moroccan restaurant and Japanese restaurant for dinner (the Japanese restaurant was not open during our stay, unfortunately, due to renovations), and a bar off the main entry. There is a beautiful spa with traditional style hammams (steam baths), a small gym, clay tennis courts, a two story library, a boutique, and a golf course right next door. The Aman staff will, of course, arrange excursions for guests such as walking tours of the medina (which we did), Agafay Desert excursions, or even helicopter tours of the Atlas Mountains (definitely on my list for next time).

How do you prefer to choose hotels or resorts when you travel? Do you plan based on your hotel amenities, or choose a home base location most convenient to explore an area, or a bit of both? Please be sure to leave me a comment below to let me know. Thank you for visiting my blog today, stay tuned for more Morocco content, and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week!
