Winter Style: Monochromatic Layering
Monochromatic style is having a serious moment right now, especially after January's Presidential inauguration here in the United States. Many people think that a monochrome outfit means only black and white pieces, but that is not true. It also means varying tones of one color. If you watched last month's inauguration coverage, you might agree with me that the day was full of incredible monochromatic layered looks from a group of powerful women! There is no way I could choose a favorite between former First Lady Michelle Obama's burgundy outfit, Vice President Kamala Harris' and former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's purple attire, First Lady Jill Biden's blue ensemble, and let's not forget Jennifer Lopez in her all white look. All of these influential women wearing beautiful monochromatic outfits inspired me to style pieces from my closet in my own take on this trend. In today's ensemble, I started with a cobalt blue cashmere sweater and cobalt blue pants that I purchased in different years from different brands, but they actually match really well. Next, I added a navy blue coat, suede booties, and clutch that are again, all from different brands and purchased at varying times. Finally, I topped off the look with a navy blue wool hat--this one is actually handmade my one of my colleagues and is amazingly soft and warm. I guess this shows you how much I gravitate toward blue pieces, but everything came together to create a cozy layered winter monochromatic look. Please read on for more photos, outfit links, and more of my picks for monochromatic pieces that I think would look fabulous styled together.
